Our name, inspired by Watchmen, one of our earliest reads, reflects our origin story – friends and bibliophiles banding together.
It all started with a simple request: to join our wives’ book groups. Denied entry, we did the only logical thing—we formed our own.
Thus, the Bookmen were born. .
We read widely, embracing classic and contemporary works across genres. Our reading list spans authors as diverse as Charles Dickens, Haruki Murakami, Margaret Atwood, P.G. Wodehouse, Gustave Flaubert, and Philip K. Dick. From literary masterpieces to cult favourites, we tackle epic novels, modern satire, dystopian visions, and hidden gems with curiosity and enthusiasm.
What unites us is a passion for storytelling, lively debate, and the occasional spirited discussion over a pint. Whether we’re exploring the existential struggles of Rabbit, Run, the dark humour of Vile Bodies, or the mind-bending twists of Ubik, we approach each book with an open mind and a sense of camaraderie.
We may not have been granted entry to the original book clubs, but in the end, we created something better—our own literary brotherhood.
Who reads with the Bookmen? We do.
